Grooming, pictures, bathing - oh yeah!!
Aside from our routine chores met with vigor every morning on the farm we had a few extra guest join us today! Laurie Goodheart from Laurie Goodheart photography in Poland was here capturing great candids of the program as well as offering portraits of the girls and the horses.
To view some of the candids she has already posted visit her FB page here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151434692872161.1073741825.312472362160&type=1
She will be making contact to parents regarding packages to purchase etc.
The horses then received a well deserved bath! I be the girls a dollar that the horses would roll after the bath and while Roux rolled immediately Brody held out until sometime in the night- no dollar owed! phew!!
Ask the learners about gut sounds! What do they sound like and why are they even important. :)

Jesse Farrar arrived and put our horse's feet back in good shape! The girls took turns being in charge of the horse as his manicure was preformed while others looked on and asked questions and of course stole clippings of the event. (warning- do not reopen the bag of hoof clippings it will stink!) Jesse has always been one of my most important guest speakers and hoof teachers in Roux Camp- because the saying is true, "No foot, No horse" as your student just how important is it for a horse to have his feet and be moving around.
We shared our first report as well as created Piper Horses and shared information about them. Learning breeds, uses and details about horses to become fluent in the equine industry language.
The afternoon was greeted by grooming, obstacle course leadership game and their first pony rides on both horses. Horses were of course perfect and my girls were eager and brave and did a fabulous job

Man was it hot!
Even though it was hot- we got a lot accomplished! Orientation to the farm and the horses, the farm and everything that goes along with the program. Grooming the horses, beginning the study of the anatomy and personality of the horses and history of the equines in our world. We started our leadership game with "follow me". The students created an obstacle course to memorize and walk the horses through. This will provide a foundation to the relationship between horse and human that can and will continue to grow once they get in the saddle. Aside from horses, this exercise has a few other gifts to offer! Self confidence, memorization of patterns, and team work with helping one another get through a test!
These students did a GREAT job in the heat and worked really hard with the horses.
For lunch we watched "World of Horses" from the Nature channel (to beat the heat for a bit) and learned about cutting horses and dressage! Very cool stuff in the heat!

Email has been sent to our students for preparing for a week of fun and learning here on Dragonfly Farm!!
Not really sure if I'm going to be more excited to see my friendly faces tomorrow morning or the horses to see those enthusiastic faces heading to the barn.
The camera is charging, memory is cleared - we hope to have video and lots of pictures to share!
Weather looks HOT! but horses still need love and care- and we got that covered!!

Parents and Students!!! Be on the lookout for your "get ready" email coming soon!!
I don't know about you, but I'm beyond excited!

In just 1 week- the farm will be buzzing with familiar faces and some new excited faces- can't wait for another Roux Camp!
